About Us
We value high quality flight instruction over quick instruction. Race City Flight Operations works to improve, innovate, and make a better environment and training program for our students. Our goal is to help create great and safe pilots instead of using the minimums as the completion standards. We believe, if they are taught to be great pilots, they will be safe and competent pilots months and years after their training.
Race City Flight Operations has been recognized for its high standard of accomplishment in flight training by The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the world’s largest aviation association. Race City Flight Operations has been awarded a spot on the Flight Training Experience Awards as a Distinguished Flight School, a title given to high scoring flight schools & instructors from the 2024 Flight Training Experience Survey.
The 2024 awards were drawn from flight students and pilots who voluntarily reviewed their flight training experience this past fall through an AOPA online customer satisfaction survey. The process yielded an evaluation of 780 different flight schools and 1,202 individual flight instructors.

Sara’s Story: Sara had always dreamed of becoming a pilot. Ever since she was a little girl, she had been fascinated by the idea of soaring through the clouds and exploring the world from above. But as she began her training to become a student pilot, she quickly realized that the journey would not be easy. The first few flights were a blur of technical jargon and seemingly endless checklist procedures. Sara struggled to keep up with the pace of the training and often found herself feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. She began to doubt whether she was cut out for this demanding career path.

Don’t let bad weather bring you down. It’s important to remember that weather is a natural part of flying and every pilot has to deal with it at some point. Use this time to review your knowledge and practice your skills in a simulated environment. You can also take this opportunity to review weather reports and forecasts to better understand how to prepare for and deal with adverse conditions.

Student Pilot Struggles: Celebrate your achievements. It’s important to recognize and celebrate your own accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. Every successful flight and every new skill learned is something to be proud of. Take a moment to savor your victories and let them fuel your motivation to keep going.

Use this time to your advantage. While you may not be able to fly due to bad weather, there are still plenty of opportunities to improve your skills and knowledge. Consider reaching out to your instructor or finding online resources to help you review and practice key concepts. The more you prepare and practice, the better equipped you will be to succeed when you are able to fly again.

Martha’s Inspiration: I began to research what it takes to become a pilot and discovered that it was a challenging but rewarding career path. I learned about the rigorous training and the dedication required to earn a pilot’s license, but the prospect of flying a plane and seeing the world from a new perspective was too enticing to ignore. One day, I made the decision to take action and follow my dream. I researched flight schools in my area and signed up for an introductory lesson. As I soared through the clouds for the first time, I felt a rush of excitement and a sense of freedom that I had never experienced before.
