Passing the CFII (Certified Flight Instructor Instrument) checkride is no small feat—it takes precision, serious dedication, and a lot of time "under the hood." We’re so proud to have Jonathan’s expertise on the team here at Race City. The sky just got a little clearer (even when it’s cloudy). Blue skies and tailwinds, Jonathan! ☁️🙌

For years, Michael watched airplanes cross the Carolina sky during his morning commute. He told himself what most people do: “Maybe someday.” Someday when work slowed down. Someday when life was less busy. Someday when he felt confident enough. Then one Saturday, he drove to the airport just to look around. That’s when he discovered Race City Flight Operations. He expected a typical training environment — complicated, intimidating, maybe even a little unwelcoming. Instead, he found instructors who spoke his language. They didn’t talk about flight training like it was reserved for a special few. They talked about it like it was achievable. Because it was. His instructor didn’t start with aerodynamics theory or regulations. They started with a simple question: “What do you want flying to mean in your life?” That question changed everything. Michael wasn’t trying to become an airline pilot. He wanted adventure. Freedom. A skill he could be proud of. A reason to look forward to weekends again. Training became the best part of his week. Every lesson was structured, professional, and purposeful. The instructors knew when to challenge him and when to encourage him. They knew how to turn mistakes into confidence. They knew how to build real pilots. That’s what happens when you learn from professionals who don’t just teach flying — they live aviation. Months later, Michael lifted off on his first solo flight. No instructor. No safety net. Just preparation, trust, and skill. That moment didn’t happen by accident. It happened because he chose the right school. People don’t just trust their education, safety, and dreams to anyone. They choose experience. They choose professionalism. They choose instructors with a proven track record of success. They choose Race City Flight Operations. Because whether your goal is a lifelong dream, a new challenge, or simply proving to yourself that you can do something extraordinary — the right training environment makes all the difference. Michael didn’t wait for “someday” anymore. He became a pilot.

Most people only see the sky through a window or a screen. We see it through a windshield. Starting your journey today means you’re no longer a spectator of the weather; you’re a participant in it. You’ll learn to read the clouds like a book and the wind like a conversation. There’s an incredible sense of power that comes with knowing how to command an aircraft through the atmosphere. Why stay grounded when the best version of your life is happening at 3,000 feet?

There’s a specific kind of "mental weight" we all carry on the ground. It’s made of deadlines, unreturned texts, and the hum of a world that never sleeps. But the moment you rotate and the nose points toward the sky, that weight stays on the runway. 🛫 Flight training isn’t just about learning to land; it’s about learning to let go. In the cockpit, there is no "later"—there is only the airspeed, the altitude, and the next checkpoint. It’s the most productive form of escapism there is. When you start your training today, you aren't just gaining a skill; you're gaining a new way to breathe.

If you’re looking into learning how to fly I would recommend Race City 1000 times! Quality instruction, nice staff, and flexible scheduling. Thank you race city for making my student pilot journey fun!

Michael Nunez

I had my first discovery flight with Ethan and he was very knowledgeable and nice, and was very clear when teaching about the operations of the planes! 100% recommend

Jason Briggs

Awesome staff great experience on the discovery flight!!!!

Grace Li

I love race city flight operations!! Josh is a great instructor!

Mike Hege

Would highly recommend RaceCity 14A As a flight school and ground training! This is a family owned and operated business/flight school/FBO that you will not find anywhere quite like it. I did the back-to-back weekend course for the PPL ground school/written test prep. Overall, I’m very pleased and feel like it prepared me for both the test and an upcoming check ride. Patrick, Nicole, Josh and Kyle are amazing!

Michael Weeks

5 stars is not enough! The whole crew at RCFO is professional, friendly, and genuinely cares about your success as a student. Could not recommend them enough.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Race City Flight Operations is hands down the best flight school I have trained with. I have been to three different flight schools prior, and no one even comes close. Race City truly wants you to succeed. Their organization, knowledge, and attention to detail are the best I have ever seen. They have a clear structure and proven templates to follow that set you up for success instead of leaving you guessing. You always know what is expected and what the next step is. They also make you feel like part of their family, not just another student. Since switching to Race City, I have seen huge progress in both my flying skills and overall aviation knowledge. I honestly wish I would have started my training with them from day one. If you are serious about learning to fly and want a school that is fully invested in your success, this is the place to be. – Jacob
