Courses

Choosing the right course is as important as choose the right flight school. There are several options when it comes to courses to choose from and choosing the right course is key in achieving your pilot aspirations.

Private Pilot

A Private Pilot Certificate will teach you how to safely and confidently navigate the airspace, so that you can enjoy new experiences with your friends and family.

Learn more about the Private Pilot Course

Getting your private pilot certificate is one of the most flexible and most popular licenses among pilots to receive. With this license you can go to any destination you like as long as the weather is at least 3 miles visibility and 2,000ft clouds. Majority of the days in the Lake Norman area will meet these requirements. The FAA requirements for this license are 40 hours of flight time, 10 of which must be solo hours.

During your training you will quickly master all the skills necessary to safely and confidently navigate the airspace in the United States, so you can fly virtually anywhere under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) while taking family and friends along for the adventure.

Learn more about the Private Pilot Ground School Course

The basis of any level of a pilot’s license is the ground school training that will be tested during your written exam, but also gives you the basic knowledge to continue in your flight training. We offer night classes as well as weekend classes. This is the classroom training you will need to become a private pilot.

Race City Flight Operations understands that your schedule may not allow for nightly classes for weeks at a time, so offer ground school classes over a weekend as well. This is an all day class, both Saturday and Sunday for two weekends. Both course options cover the same material, and provide all of the required class materials listed below-even the paper and pens you’ll need. All you need to do is show up!

The nightly option meets Monday and Wednesday nights from 6PM to 8:15PM and will last 8 or 9 weeks. The night course cost is $420.

The weekend option meets for two weekends in a row, on Saturday and Sunday from 10AM to 4PM. Lunch is provided so learning can continue throughout the day. The weekend course cost is $450.
